Designing with AI.
Life in Japan
The details people don't notice
A kimono's pattern is more than decorative. It tells a story. A story of seasons, status, and ceremony. Living in Japan taught me that the details people don't notice are often the most meaningful.
AI
More than going faster
Most designers are using AI to go faster. I'm more interested in what it takes to make it trustworthy. The more I build with it, the more convinced I am that humans need to stay involved.
Healthcare & Finance
The tools that run the world
Most people don't think about the software their doctor uses. Or the tool a claims agent spends eight hours a day in. But bad design in these systems shows up as errors, delays, and compliance failures. That's what I work to fix.
A generative art tool that animates opacity patterns across a configurable grid using sine wave mathematics.
Designed and built entirely through conversation with Claude. No Figma mockups, no traditional handoff. An experiment in AI-assisted design and development.
In Japan, the smallest things are done with care you can feel. A shoehorn long enough that you never have to bend. Shoes turned to face the door. Every detail earns its place. I brought that same obsession to every product I've worked on, asking the right questions, staying close to the user, understanding the role deeply before touching the design.
Right now I'm thinking about AI the same way. Not just where to use it, but where not to. How to make it trustworthy for the people who depend on it most.
